Good evening folks…

Hope everyone’s having a great day. I’ve had a very busy one. Sadly I didn’t get to take advantage of the wonderful weather today, as I was in the office most of the day (a rarity — my work typically takes me into the field).

Been a while since a rundown’s taken place…so here we go. It won’t be the traditional newsy rundown as I typically do, but rather one that is more self-centered. Haha.

  • I bought an iPod nano this past weekend. I had resisted for a long time — then Apple released the new nano models. Because I wasn’t going to pay $269 for an 8GB black nano (which is badass, don’t get me wrong), I went with an open-box oldschool 2GB black nano for $130 and change. I must say, I’m in love with it — it goes pretty much everywhere with me. My only complaints are the Apple-supplied earbuds — those foam pads won’t stay on to save my life, and they get somewhat uncomfortable when they’re in for a while, and the fact that it really makes my MPx220 look old. Haha. The best part of this whole thing is that I don’t have to switch to iTunes or anything — indeed, the nano works perfectly fine with Winamp 5.24’s built-in synchronizer. Too sweet.
  • Trevor Hoffman is damn close to the all-time saves record! He’s two away from tying Lee Smith’s record of 478. The Padres hold on to a meager half game lead in the NL West which has really played out to be the dogfight I was anticipating at the beginning of the year. I just didn’t think it’d be the Dodgers contending so well…
  • Speaking of the Padres… I think Kevin Towers screwed up royally not pursuing Greg Maddux harder. David Wells was destroyed last night, and is still searching for his first win in San Diego. All Greg Maddux has done is taken no-hitters into the sixth twice for L.A. and helped bring them right back into serious contention.
  • Props to John Schuerholz for locking up Bob Wickman for another year. The Braves proved this year that a good closer is essential to success — you don’t make it to the playoffs by your bullpen blowing 20 of the first 40 save opportunities. The Padres have proved this as well, but with just the opposite: for a majority of the season, the bullpen has been lights out, which is why they’re still contending today despite the fact they cannot hit. Also, I was very glad to see that John Smoltz will return for his 19th season next year. Very awesome!
  • Finally, anyone who can impart wisdom into doing a paper post-five-screwdrivers is much appreciated at this point…haha. :)

Have a lovely night folks. Catch you tomorrow.

J
