Five-year-old mystery — solved.

This time of year typically sprouts a lot of Facebook albums entitled “OMG CUP!!!” and “CAROLINA CUP ’07!” filled with pictures of happy, well-dressed, smiling, drinking college students. I had always been intrigued by this phenomenon — what makes people gravitate to a field for a weekend of drinking — besides, of course, drinking?

Thanks to Chuck’s blog, it all came clear: the Carolina Cup is a horse race! Mystery: solved. Yes, folks, I am an idiot. :) This probably further establishes my position as one of the worst South Carolinians ever, but hey…

    I had gone in 2004 and it was time to go again this year.

    The favorite comment – usually by the college crowd – is “I never saw a horse.”

    This year, a tailgater drove a vehicle he had bought from a funeral home so people now can add ” …but I DID see a hearse.”
