Wow…what a thing to wake up to

I woke up at 2:30 to a fairly decent thunderstorm and powered down my equipment as a precaution, so I haven’t been getting radar images all night. I have, however, been getting stuff left and right on my phone. I took a look at the weather on the phone a second ago, and the pressure is 29.39 inches — 995 millibars — making this low that’s coming in the rough equivalent of a deepening tropical storm. The wind is intense, as intense as I’ve seen it in a long time. The clouds are whipping at a furious pace from the southeast. Firing up GRLevel3 this morning shows rotating thunderstorms in the line, and earlier there were tornado warnings lighting up the skies. I’m taking a few pictures and videos and will upload them later.

Today would be a good day to avoid the bridges…wow. More later.

  • I was actually awake at 1:45am when Comcast cut into every channel with an emergency broadcast alert about a tornado warning for Berkeley County. I hopped onto noaa.gov to see where in the county it was, but it was up by the lakes.

My brother lives up that way, so I called him up to let him know. I was looking forward to seeing it here though. :/

Now I’m waiting for this line of bad storms to blow through. It’s been taking forever. Looking at the radar loop, it’s blowing toward the ocean and has seemed to hit a wall. That’s just going to build it up and make them worse, so when they finally blow through, it should be pretty interesting.

  • I saw both Moncks Corner Vol FD trucks leaving my neighborhood around 8am. We never heard any sirens and as we’re not in the town proper (South on 52) they rarely come out our way. All I saw were a few downed trees and some DOT trucks. I don’t know what, if anything happened here.

  • Trees appear to be the main issue of the day. I saw on WCBD a report of a mobile home flipped in Colleton County, but haven’t caught the followup on that yet.

Another set of heavy storms just flared up in Berkeley County, but it’s tough to say when the end of all this will be. After the storms overnight, Downtown has seen nothing.
