Netbot for App.net released

It’s a pretty big day for App.net with the release of Netbot for iOS. Time will tell, but I think I like Trey Piepmeier’s analogy to best describe what Netbot might mean to App.net adoption.

I remember hearing a lot of people in the early going who claimed they would pay for Twitter if they let them (present company included). Given the opportunity to pay for something that has Twitter-like functionality (and so much more), it’s time to see who will put their money where their mouth is. App.net has some serious geek energy behind it — a lot of it very reminiscent of Twitter’s early days — and it will be interesting to see what people build on top of it. Tim Haines, creator of Favstar, has already called out one such use — building a chat room on top of App.net’s platform.

I’m still trying to decide what App.net is for me. If you’re there, give me a shout: the usual username applies.
