Most notably, it’s my last semester as an undergraduate. This day’s come about two or three years later than I would have liked, but it’s here and I’m happy. Needless to say, I’m ready to be done; the proverbial light at the end of the proverbial tunnel is increasing in brightness, etc. I could throw a thousand cliches at you — and in fact, I had several queued up here — but I’ll spare you.

What a long, strange trip it’s been to get here. Over the course of the semester, I’ll probably be quite reflective here and on Twitter. These last several years certainly have altered my entire outlook and path, and thus demand the respect of documentation for at least my own records.

So with apologies to Tantric, the end begins today and goes right up to December, when I’ll walk across a stage and receive a blank piece of paper that LOOKS like a diploma (the actual thing will show up later). Until that final walk, I’m happy to have you all along for the ride, and I’m thankful to those of you who have stuck with me since I restarted this journey back in 2006. Your support — most notably the “it’s never too late to go back” pep talks — really have helped me through.

Crunch Time

As Per Whatever

busy

class

life

project

school

Well, it’s April, which can only mean one thing: end-of-semester lunacy. This blog has been eerily silent, I know, and that silence will probably continue through Tuesday or so. I have a gigantic pile of e-mail that I am well aware of, but I’m just not sure when I’ll get to dig out. Apologies in advance. I go up Twitterscope occasionally but that’s even been less frequent as of late. I’m glad this is the last April that I’ll have to deal with this (at least for now).

In the meantime, here’s a report about the College’s Geology Club fundraiser that I did for today. Pardon the opening sequence…I swear, the next place that I get, I will do much more to the lighting so that stuff I do at home won’t suck. That, and I need a much better camera.

A rare post…

As Per Whatever

friday

lawsuits

leap day

midterm

riaa

school

thunder in paradise

It’s a pretty rare event that I post on February 29th, and for a change, it has nothing to do with how busy I am. ;) A few pre-midterm thoughts while Twitter is MIA (again!)… Don’t let the RIAA fool you — the music lawsuits were never about protectnig the artists. A friend of mine sent me a YouTube link to Thunder in Paradise, a very short-lived show featuring Hulk Hogan with a kickass boat and lots of scantily-clad women. I used to really dig it when it was on TNT…and it seems as if I can watch it. Many years later, I see why the show was so short-lived.

The blogger/tweeter meetup last night was pretty fantastic. I stayed way later than I expected, but had a great time. Shuffleboard at Gene’s is a fantastic time. Highly recommended. It was great to meet some new folks as well as see some folks I hadn’t seen in a while!

One more midterm, and the student side of my life is off for a week.

Hope your Friday is fun!

This is what I do in school

As Per Whatever

class project

school

tv news

video production

I think people would be interested to know what I do in class — so here goes. Alison, who helped Justin with taping and did other behind-the-scenes coaching, has done work with at least two TV stations and brought that experience into the field, helping me be at least a little more professional. I did the graphics and cut the tape together…that was fun. It’s all one giant learning experience for me, and it’s a heck of a time.

Looking ahead

classes

independent study

internet

Rundown

school

temperatures

twitter

unseasonably warm

Weather

This promises to be quite a week. Not only is it the first full work week in 2008, it’s also the week school begins (I start Wednesday). After dropping a cool $222.10 on books, I’m ready for the semester ahead. I’m taking a class that talks about mass media’s impact on society, a television news class (yay possible vlogging!) and a sportswriting class (because, well, I can). The Mass Media and Society class is an 8am on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so that will be quite a role reversal from the schedule I had been practicing (which is why I scheduled some hardware maintenance for 8am today — it’s a good jolt to the system).

I need to think of an independent study in communication of some type. It will likely involve the Internet in some capacity. Perhaps it could be a Twitter study of some type. We shall see. I need to think it over. (Suggestions?)

The spring semester also will bring a great deal of activity in a place where it may not be that wonderful — right outside my office. My office moved down a couple floors in my building before break — while the space is much larger, there’s also classrooms directly surrounding it, which will attract a lot of student conversation that could be high in volume. We’ll see what happens.

Finally, I love the fact that it was almost 70 today. It’s a great respite after that Arctic blast last week.

Light at the end of the tunnel

In Brief

college

graduation

registration

relief

school

I registered this morning.
