Serious Business hit the ground running on its new night last night — we’re doing it live Wednesdays now at 8:30 PM ET. I saw a lot of new faces in the show last night — very cool! Here’s hoping next week I won’t fall asleep before preparation so I can start doing some Skype call-ins.
An hour of my voice hurts your ears and my vocal cords, so it will be awesome to bring more into the mix. Last night’s show, where I say my piece on Twitter’s first-week-of-2009 struggles and demonstrate Windows 3.11 on my 386, lives on after the jump. read more »

2008 was Serious Business. I’ll be taking a look back at what 2008 did and take a stab, with the assistance of the infamous Dragon Dagger, at what 2009 might possibly bring (though I will likely be very, very wrong). I’ll take your predictions in the chat room, and we’ll likely derail the conversation in some awesome direction as we always do.
We’ll do it live on Ustream.tv at 8:30 Eastern, 5:30 Pacific. Hope to see you in chat!
Yes, I’m bringing Serious Business back tonight for the first time in three months. While the plan is to do another show next Tuesday, I can’t guarantee that Tuesdays will be the permanent night yet. (Honestly, it all predicates on the day of the week after work I go to Norm’s.) It’ll be the usual 8:30 ET starting time.
What’s on the docket tonight?
- OMG LISTS: If you ask some people, lists are The Scourge of the Internets. Others deem them necessary, and even more people think “There’s two Internets?”
- 12seconds Is The New Hotness: 12seconds.tv — a service that is essentially Twitter for videos, limiting you to 12 seconds to speak your mind — recently went into public beta. With more community building there, it’s starting to become a real blast, and I may have found a great use for it as well…
- The Answers: A new segment wherein you ask me a question, I consult my source, and give you the answer. You’ll just have to see it.
There’s likely more, and who knows what tangents we might go off on in the conversation — the only way to find out for sure is if you join us at 8:30 ET tonight!
I’m sitting here with a terrible case of selective writers’ block. I can write stream of consciousness in the blog all day long — which is what this is — but I’m struggling to write a movie review for my editing class. It’s due Wednesday but this is the only time I really have anything resembling energy for homework, which is surprising considering the emotional rollercoaster the NFL has been for the first two weeks. (I don’t want to say much about Week 2 beyond “the Cardiac Cats are BACK!” and “isn’t robbery illegal in Colorado?”) read more »
Here’s tonight’s Serious Business/Charleston Weather show concerning Gustav and Hanna. I’ll have a lot more on Hanna as the week goes on as it has a decent chance of causing some inclement weather in Charleston by the end of the week.
Unsurprisingly, Serious Business tomorrow night will be almost entirely devoted to not just Gustav’s impending landfall but also talking about Tropical Storm Hanna and its potential impact on the East Coast later this week. Be sure to join me at 8:30 Eastern tomorrow night!
I’m taking a break on Serious Business this week as I’ve had quite a busy weekend and need at least a few hours to recharge.
I’ll be back with more next Sunday at 8:30 with what I’m certain will be something epic. I can feel it. For now, though, enjoy a Jared-free Sunday with your family, friends, or multitudes of cats, whichever your situation may be.
Serious Business proper was preempted somewhat tonight by a briefing on Charleston Weather for Tropical Storm Fay. I’m planning on doing a few more videos as the storm gets closer; the interactive sessions on Ustream could be potentially useful as we continue to learn more about what Fay is going to do. Blog posts about Fay will continue and be tagged appropriately.
I recorded tonight’s briefing, and it’s now available online (though it may be outdated by tomorrow morning). read more »
Tonight’s Serious Business will be a two-parter; we’ll be starting out on Charleston Weather talking about the latest with Tropical Storm Fay, now a 55 MPH tropical storm starting to make a northward turn to take it over Cuba and into the Gulf. We’ll talk about where Fay is now, where it’s been, and where it might be headed and how it will impact our weather later in the week. (I’ll be simulcasting Charleston Weather inside of Serious Business, so feel free to watch over there.) The second part will be the usual Business — your usual potpourri discussion of…well, whatever tangent the audience manages to trip me on this week. We’ll DO IT LIVE tonight around 8:30 (might be a few minutes late for technical considerations) at http://jaredisserious.biz.
Serious Business pays tribute to Bernie Mac and Issac Hayes, who both passed away this weekend, talks about browser compatibility, and then goes off on some strange tangent — as usual — about eHarmony, DOING IT LIVE, and how bad it is that Brett Favre gets more play than the Olympics over here.
Don’t just take my word for it. Video after the jump. read more »
