I’ve upgraded the site to run WordPress 2.7. The big deal about WordPress 2.7 is the new administration section, and wow — it’s a great improvement (if a bit gray — there are color schemes, if I remember correctly, so I’ll get some more color in here). But the UI is really well laid-out, and eliminates a lot of those menu crowding issues that come with a healthy number of plugins. The upgrade was, like pretty much every WordPress upgrade, smooth and effortless, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the product just continues to mature and evolve.

Had a bit of a wild ride putting WordPress 2.6.2 on jaredwsmith.com this morning, as I suddenly got confronted with the Evil Looping Login of Death, but obviously I got it fixed. (Here’s how.) To prevent this from happening, don’t be a gunslinger like me and pay close heed to the section of the upgrade instructions where they say disable all plugins before running the upgrade…
Windows Mobile 6 for BlackJack is out. Clearly, it took me buying a BlackBerry for this to happen. Haha.
I just threw WordPress 2.3.2 on the server. It fixes a few potentially nasty security bugs, so it’d be smart if you run your own WordPress installation to upgrade to this new one. It’s a quicker upgrade than most WordPress upgrades, particularly if you were using 2.3.1 — no database changes appear to be needed.

I’ve been trying to wait patiently for The New AT&T to release Windows Mobile 6 for the BlackJack. They’ve done so for the AT&T 8525, but have yet to do so for both the BlackJack and Treo 750. I think they’re close — the impending release of the BlackJack II is probably the holdup — but I couldn’t wait any longer.
Then, I found this thread on HowardForums — and jackpot. In about 20 minutes (5 of which were required to find my syncing cable), the ROM flash was complete. Before you knew it, the AT&T 3G startup screen appeared — and bam. Windows Mobile 6 on my BlackJack. And folks, it is sweet. read more »
That first point release is out, so time to upgrade. :) See you on the flip side.
Update: Looks like it’s up and everything is running quite fine. Word! I need to now get the new tagging system integrated…

SCORE! BetaNews has some great news: The BlackJack is getting Windows Mobile 6! That’s fantastic, fantastic news. That was a major reservation of mine when I was debating whether to buy it or not, so I’m sure glad that my investment will be protected. :)
Ernesto is now a 60 MPH tropical storm moving north-northeast at 15 MPH. They are once again leaving the possibility open for the storm to strengthen into a hurricane, and have posted hurricane watches from South Santee River northward to Cape Lookout.
The track takes the center right over the North and South Carolina border. One thing worth noting is that Charleston is removed from the cone of uncertainty as a landfall point. This is generally a Good Thing. Here’s the map:
I’m going to keep an eye on the radar though — it seems like there was a recent wobble to the left, but it’s tough to tell sometimes.
Sorry about the slowness. Please be patient. If things get too much slower here, please view http://jaredwsmith.wordpress.com — I’m kind of glad I got that account now. That will work as a good “backup blog” so to speak.
