A rough month for DreamHost!

DreamHost, the hosting provider for JaredWSmith.com and about 95% of the other Web things I operate, has had a rough July thanks to the brownouts and such in Los Angeles. Their extremely detailed blog entry shows that they are sincerely working hard to try to mitigate any future disasters, and gives some insight into just how tough it is to run a massive hosting operation such as Dreamhost. It’s a great read, highly recommended.

Wow. They’re not even my host and I feel sorry for them. That sounds like one of those times where every time you say “well, at least it can’t possibly get any worse…”, something blows up and you ask why you couldn’t have the previous problem again.

I will say though that I’ve noticed a few times here and there (I can’t recall if it was within the past month or so) where your site seemed to have a really large delay, and then semi-slow throughput. There was a while where I thought you were actually hosting this yourself from home. :p

Sounds like they’re on the right track for future-proofing themselves though. Good for them.
